Langa service desk and the Langa technician app · last updated 12 October 2026
Who we are
Langa is a service-desk system operated by Emalangeni Technologies for the organisations that use it to log and resolve service requests (municipalities, internet service providers and their contractors). Each organisation is the responsible party for its own records under the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA); Emalangeni Technologies processes them on that organisation's behalf.
What we collect
- Staff and technicians: name, work email, phone number, and your sign-in history.
- Jobs: the calls assigned to you, and what you record on them — trip start, arrival, completion, notes, photos, vehicle odometer readings and customer sign-off.
- Location (technician app): your phone's position only at the moment you tap Start trip, Arrived on site, Job done or I can't take this job. The app does not track you in the background and does not read your location when it is closed.
- People who log a request: name, phone number, email and address, and the messages exchanged about the request (including WhatsApp and SMS).
Why
To assign, track and prove work on service requests; to keep customers informed about their request; and to measure response times. Location is recorded as proof of attendance on a job.
Who it is shared with
Only with the organisation that owns the job and its authorised staff. Messages to customers are delivered through the messaging providers that organisation uses (for example WhatsApp by Meta, and SMS gateways), which may process them outside South Africa. We do not sell personal information or use it for advertising.
How it is protected
All traffic is encrypted (HTTPS). Passwords are stored hashed. On the phone, your sign-in is kept in the device's secure storage (Keychain or Keystore); signing out removes it, and an administrator can sign a lost device out.
How long it is kept
Job records are kept for as long as the organisation needs them for its service history and legal obligations. A staff login is deactivated when the person leaves.
Your rights
You may ask to see, correct or delete your personal information, or object to its processing. Ask the organisation you work for or deal with, or contact us at langa@emalangenitech.co.za. You may also complain to the Information Regulator (inforegulator.org.za).
Deleting your account
Technician and staff logins are created by your organisation's administrator. To have your login and the personal details attached to it removed, ask that administrator, or email us at the address above. Job records your organisation must keep stay with that organisation, without your login.
